The Congo in Crisis

November 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Lynne Hybels is calling for the church to respond to the crisis in Congo. Click hereto watch the video.

In Congo, where more than 5 million people have died in the past twelve years, the violence has again flared up in the past few months.

“More than 250,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to heavy fighting….” said Hybels, “In some communities, 95% of women have been raped.”

Many are hungry, have seen their homes destroyed, lost all of their property or are in desperate need of medical care. Outbreaks of cholera are threatening the lives of thousands.

The Associated Press reported that one woman said, “We’ve had nothing to eat for three days.” She’d been on the run from the advancing rebel army for five days, but was heading back to her village because she could not find food or shelter. “My only choice,” she said, “is to go home.”
