Ok, so now let’s say you’re convinced that 1.) the problem is great and 2.) that you can and should do something about it. What’s next? Well, I mentioned some small steps in my last post. Another critical step is to begin to learn more about what is being done already to eliminate poverty. The easiest way to get involved is to join up with some of the many other movements, organizations, groups and sites that are already going. You can begin with the links on the right side of this site.
There are some things that you probably won’t be able to avoid hearing about even if you just scratch the surface of this topic. Take, for example, The Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s). The MDS’s are eight goals that 192 UN member nations have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2015. Reliable sources say that they can be met - preventing 2.4 million child deaths - for only $800 USD per child (1.9 billion)! That may sound like a lot, but it’s not considering that we spend 3 billion dollars on our pets in the US alone.
